One Sturdy Rubber Axe Head - Single or Double Facewith FREE SHIPPING!
This auction is for a goodly PoleAxe Hammer Head and/or Spear Head Spike designed specifically for SCA or WMA heavy combat. Made of a heavy vulcanized rubber it is extremely tough and nearly indestructible given it's single piece stout injection molded construction. These have been designed to be deliver a telling blow while at the same time have a moderating crush space that eases the severity of the blow for the safety of the recipient. These designs are reasonably well accepted through the Known Worlde however some Kingdoms will require addition padding along the striking surface. Consult with your marshal or safety office to ensure conforming and safe use with your specific activity.

essential mounting instructions below. (very important).
We have long enjoyed exploring the medieval poleaxe / polehammer. Featured in historical treatises such as Hans Talhoffer's 1467 fechtbuch, Fiore dei Liberi's
Fior di Battaglia
, Filippo Vadi's
Arte Gladiatoria
and in many iconographical references for feats of arms and duels during the 15th century, this deadly weapon was meant for punching through armour, tearing it loose from rivet and strap, or driving concussive blows through a defender's helmet.
Our hammer is designed for students of historical fighting forms, tournament and SCA combatants who are looking to explore the weapon without the risk inherent in any metal or wooden version.
We think this hammer head is perfect for SCA or for Western Martial Arts use! Firm enough to enable hooks. The hammer side also tapers, so that on impact it will just slightly fold, giving even more.
The New Version PoleHammer Heads are available in two varieties:
WMA version has a smaller cylinder spike cap. It is in all other ways the same
The SCA version has a larger cylinder spike cap to be compliant with SCA weapon standards. These have been tested and reviewed by the East Kingdom Earl Marshal and his experimental Deputy in early 2015.
The original "sharp head" style has been discontinued.
Poleweapon Top & Bottom Spike (WMA)
The thrust with each end of the poleaxe was an integral part of historical technique as recorded in the 15th century treatises of Fiore dei Liberi, Pietro Monte, Paulus Kals and Hans Talhoffer, as it is in the anonymous Jeu de la Hache.
In addition, these "lanza" tips are *ideal* for use on short spears. On a 1 1/8" hardwood shaft (ash or hickory), they play beautifully and allow combatants to compete with near-full force wearing minimal protection.
For students of these styles, however, simulating such a weapon has long been a problem. We took care when designing the 1467 Talhoffer weapon head to evoke the feel of the original; now, we have done the same for our WMA poleweapon thrusting head. Intended for use as a compliment to the Polehammer head, the spike can be placed at the top of the weapon to simulate the "dague dessus" or at the bottom, to simulate the "dague dessous".
Each tip flexes as the head is hollow for part of its length. The tip will compress on impact, or fold with a less perfect strike, easing the force communicated to your partner.
Beyond polearms, the tip can be used effectively as a spear-point, giving more precise play than the larger padded heads.
Our rubber weapons ares designed for students of historical fighting forms and tournament combatants who are looking to explore the weapon without the risk inherent in any metal or wooden version.
Currently the tips are available only in a WMA version
, as the SCA rules require a much larger surface area for the head itself and a larger amount of direct compression (as opposed to bend).
The spike features a compression-fit 1" mounting hole that will fit on round, square or octagonal ash poles commonly used in Western martial arts weapons.
The Spear head is is 7 1/2" overall with a blade width of 1 7/8" and thickness of 1 1/4" ball tipped by a 1" diameter end. This is quite suitable for WMA but will
not be permissible
within the SCA rules systems. It is designed to allow for a flexible stab. Because the tip is sized less than the minimum 1 1/4", it is not compliant with SCA standards. While this is primarily intended to be used for WMA, it may be possible to add sized and padding to make the tip an safe and acceptable spear tip in the context of SCA combat. Weight is 5 oz.
In appearance, they are a mostly smooth black surface.
They're specifically designed and manufactured for SCA combat, with a large dollar investment and many hours invested in design, mold costs, and prototype runs. If you haven't seen one, you haven't seen anything like it.
Essential Mounting Instructions: VERY IMPORTANT:
We recommend that these be installed onto a shaft
JUST SLIGHTLY LARGER THAN THE HOLE
. Carefully mounting onto measured 1 1/8" rattan will work well, but
do not use any larger. You will certainly damage the head by forcing it onto the overlarge shaft.
WE ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY SAY THIS IS A BAD IDEA. Don't do it, you have been warned.
