Description
Rare group of 9 photo lithograph prints of Native Americans from the 1899 originals by Heyn Photo Omaha issued as premiums circa 1900 by Cudahy Packing Co. also of Omaha. The prints were beautifully printed by Burkley Printing of Omaha. Cudahy Packing Company was created in 1890.
In 1911, the company's headquarters were relocated from Omaha to Chicago. In 1905, Cudahy Packing Company introduced Old Dutch Cleanser.
From June 1 1898 to November 1, 1898 the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition was held in Omaha. Part of the Exposition included the Indian Congress which was held from August 1898 to November 1898. At the Indian Congress over 500 Native Americans from many tribes attended. Many artists and photographers also attended and captured their images.
Herman Heyn was an important portrait photographer in Omaha (located at 313-15-17 So 15th St.) from 1880's to the 1920's. He was nationally known for more than 500 images he created of Native Americans. Copies of his photos are in the Library of Congress.These prints measure 8x10" (1 with larger borders) and the subjects are identified in the top corners. Some of these images were used on Cudahy advertising calendars circa 1900 too. A rare set.
