Jordan Marsh Historic Books. Condition is Used and New.
Jordan Marsh (now Macy's) was the first grand department store in the US.  In its earliest days of catering to the "Carriage trade" horse drawn carts would deliver massive furniture to the doyennes of Beacon Hill. Its founders and early leaders had a "progressive" vision for the store and set out to build a massively impressive building but offered merchandise affordable to a growing middle class at turn of the twentieth century. People did not just shop at "Jordan's". They went for the experience. Entering the main entrance shoppers were greeted by a grand staircase.  In addition to choosing household furnishings visitors could dine at one of the restaurants on premise.
To this day locals brag if they have the "secret" recipe for Jordan March blueberry muffins. Recipe included in  historian Anthony Sammarco's
"Jordan Marsh, New England's Largest Store". [they really are delicious!]This
delightful volume will give you the historians long view of this storied institution.
Professor Sammarco's book is paired with a must read,  "Tales of The Observer" by Richard H. Edwards. P
