    Description

One of the most iconic 50's era US Navy jets, the Chance Vought F7U
    Cutlass
was (like many aircraft of the time) a futuristic design whose true potential was ham-stringed by the technology of the day. The
    Cutlass
first flew on September 18, 1948, but took another six years before they were introduced to the fleet. Their career in the Navy was short-lived, as the last were retired in March of 1959, after a total of 320 aircraft being built. Of this number, nearly half were involved in some manner of accident.
Offered here is a very rare
    Cutlass
promotional item. It's an art portfolio produced by Chance Vought, and contains six artist renderings of the F7U in service. Approximate measurements for each print is 16.5" wide by 13.25" high. These prints come in a textured, card stock 'pouch', which exhibits some staining. The prints themselves are exceptional, with no defects in the art area. As seen in the photos, each has some slight water stains on the left-hand side of the border. I suspect there is a conservator's way of removing these, or - easier still - they could be covered with a matte if you intend to frame them. In any event, these marks do not distract from the beauty of the artwork. While undated, it's safe to assume that these prints were made in the late 40s or early 50s. This collection was unissued...I acquired directly from the Vought corporation when they were clearing out their warehouses. They are a great reflection of the aircraft and time period, and would make a welcome addition to any collection.
The portfolio will be carefully wrapped, placed between cardboard, and shipped in the flat via USPS Priority Mail with tracking. Happy to answer any questions that you might have, and I invite you to check out my other Naval Aviation items. Thanks for looking...and
