Antique British Sailor Folkart Carved Book Box - Admiral Nelson

Fresh from an Upstate New York estate, we have this
beautiful carved box in the shape of a book.
When we acquired this piece, it rattled when it was shaken,
but there did not appear to be any way to open it. After careful examination,
we found a small seam and were able to carefully pry open the secret compartment.  Inside we found a British 1844 half farthing, and the pictured note which reads:
Box made from wood of Nelsons
flag ship by Great Grandfather
Wm. A. White who was head
sail maker on same.
S.W. White
The bit of research we have done, finds an S.W. White who was a prominent
businessman in Staatsburg, N.Y. in the early 20th century, consistent with the location of the estate and the paper and writing on the note. We also note that as head sailmaker would be an officer, William A. White can be traced through The National Archives of Great Britain -- just a bit of elbow grease research and you will be able to complete the provenance of this gorgeous piece.
