MUST HAVE BEATLES!
BEWARE of dupes being sold as originals
Offered for sale here is an original 1964 Press kit made to promote the Pathe Film short "The Beatles Come To Town."
It was a short subject, and so there's not a lot to it, but what was released was pretty cool - and rare. You get an ad slick sheet used for newspaper advertising. You also get a FANTASTIC original NSS (National Screen Service
)
photograph. The photo is an 8x10 and still has the original bag it was issued with. The ad mat sheet is 8
1/2 by 11 inches and was printed. It
has the NSS number stamp is in blue at the bottom of the sheet. It also has a cool press release story on it too
(see photo #6)
.
Genuine 1964 printed originals almost never appear
. Remember, this still was made to promote a British Pathe short subject presentation introducing the Beatles to the US. In 1964
.
With TV so readily available, short subjects were being phased-out of the movie theaters, and so they were not so commonly found playing. So, needless to say, there wasn't a huge quantity of the originals distributed in the first place. Out of the ones that were distributed, few have survived until today. Back in 1964, the Beatles were very popular with the teenage sect. Everyone knew someone who
feverishly collecting on them. This resulted in an abnormally strong interest in Beatles related memorabilia. Not much remained lying around for long, certainly nothing with pictures of all four Beatles on it. Originals were scarce, even back then. You'll find way more original 1964 printed Ed Sullivan press photos than you will stills on this short.
Back in the 1970s a number of movie still dealers photographically duplicated original stills on "The Beatles Come to Town," selling quantities of them at movie collecting shows. This went on for a solid two decades running, and so there's lots of confusion among collectors as to what's "original."
>>>>>"ORIGINAL" means printed back in 1964!<<<<<
One of the easiest ways of telling if yours is NOT original: is when there's an obvious drop in the image quality!  The problem, since few people have ever seen a sharp original, is in finding the information necessary on how to spot a fake. To help point out fakes, and, to help the newer collectors understand why this 8x10 still is so valuable, I've provided a high-quality direct scan of this original. If you can see how clear and sharp this original is it will be easy to spot most fakes - study the jackets - notice the faces. This is what an original looks like, and, this is what you'll get when you buy this rare 1964 original! Sorry to disappoint those who thought they had an original, but let the truth be known!
A genuine original is RARE, and, SHARP! Not just in lens focus, but more importantly, in pop-culture focus - it's now become one of the Beatles most iconic images. It so beautifully foreshadows the Beatles later "Abbey Road" street-crossing imagery, which so successfully served the Beatles to great effect back in '69, memorably underscoring the end of their careers as Beatles, or at least as "band" members. Arguably, that album cover shoot was their final unadulterated "Fab-worthy" success. It's hard not to acknowledge that this early (1964) Beatles image now perfectly bookends with that legendary (1969) shoot.
Nearly upon the exact moment that this photo was originally taken the word "fab" became forever attached to the word "four" - and the rest is history... as they like to say.
You're not going to find any more important a Beatles image. It's so stellar that out of all the hundreds of thousands of Beatles images existent on the planet today, The Beatles Corporation (a.k.a. Apple Music), and, the Apple Computer Corporation
>>
both
<<
choose this very image to announce the launch of the Beatles into a new 21st Century modern "coming" on I-Tunes.
The Original NSS Bag comes with the still & Press-sheet in this auction.
Note that the bag lists two stills. One was removed at the time and this kit only comes with the one pictured. Luckily, it is the nicer of the two stills.
John Lennon
Paul McCartney
George Harrison
Ringo Starr
Brian Epstein
